Forced Sterilization Victims Granted $50,000 Over Admitted US ‘Eugenics’ Program
This is no conspiracy theory — North Carolina officials are proposing that victims of forced sterilization programs be given $50,000 each in compensation, with the Associated Press admitting that the sterilization campaign was part of a “once-common public health practice called eugenics.”
Victims include thousands of individuals, such as criminals, mentally disabled, and women who were sterilized after giving birth to children as a product of rape.
The forced sterilizations occurred from 1929 to 1974 under admitted eugenics programs that officials claimed were ‘creating a better society’ by removing the reproductive abilities of criminals and those suffering from mental disorders. During this time periods, more than 7,600 individuals in North Carolina were sterilized. On a national scale, around 60,000 were forcibly sterilized under the same eugenics program

Free Sterilizations Must be Offered to All College Women, Says HHS
(CNSNews.com) - All student health care plans covering female college students in the United States must include coverage for free voluntary sterilization surgery, the Department of Health and Human Services announced late Friday afternoon.
Women of college age who do not attend school will also get free sterilization coverage whether they are insured through an employer, their parents, or some form of government-subsidized plan.
All student health plans, HHS said Friday as it finalized a new regulation under the Affordable Care Act (otherwise known as Obamacare) must cover the full set of cost-free women’s “preventive services” that HHS ordered last month must be covered by all U.S. health care plans.
Pelosi Cuts Off Question About Free Sterilization Mandate; Says: 'Let's Go to Church and Talk About Our Religion'
(CNSNews.com) - At a press conference on Wednesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) cut off a question about the Health and Human Services regulation that takes effect on Aug. 1 and that will require health care plans in the United States to provide coverage for sterilizations, without any fees or co-pay, to all women with “reproductive capacity”--meaning all women who have begun ovulating, including teens.
Pelosi mistakenly thought the question about “sterilization” that she interrupted was about religion.
"I told you before, let’s go to church and talk about our religion," Pelosi said.
After the press conference, Pelosi’s communication director, Nadeam Elshami, did not respond to the question about the sterilization regulation's application to young women when it was sent to via email and when calls were placed to him at Pelosi’s office.
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius proposed the regulation in question last August as part of the implementation of Obamacare. It says that health care plans “are required to provide coverage without cost sharing” for “all Food and Drug Administration approved contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and patient education and counseling for all women with reproductive capacity.”

California was sterilizing its female prisoners as late as 2010
Highlights from the first story that The Center for Investigative Reporting published 7 July (which I authored) show the results, including:
- Doctors under contract with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation sterilized nearly 150 female inmates from 2006 to 2010 without required state approvals - and there were perhaps 100 more dating back to the late 1990s.
- Former inmates and prisoner advocates say prison medical staff coerced the women into agreeing to the surgeries, targeting those deemed likely to return to prison in the future.
- From 1997 to 2010, the state paid doctors $147,460 to perform tubal ligations, according to a database of contracted medical services for state prisoners.
- A prison administrator acknowledged that she tried to find workarounds, and the prison's ob-gyn defended the expenditure, saying:
Over a 10-year period, that isn't a huge amount of money compared to what you save in welfare paying for these unwanted children - as they procreated more.
