Gdy Dilma Rousseff nie jest już prezydentem Brazylii, prawica może rozpocząć wielką neoliberalną “reformę” i masową prywatyzację. Zamierza również dobić Partię Pracujących, oskarżając byłego prezydenta Lulę o kierowniczą rolę w aferze korupcyjnej.

Na bardzo kiepski żart zakłada nazwanie planu masowej prywatyzacji “Projektem Wzrost”, jak uczyniła to rządząca od niedawna brazylijska prawica pod wodzą Michela Temera. “Wzrost” ma zagwarantować Brazylii sprzedaż m.in. praw do zarządzania lotniskami w Florianopolis, Fortalezie, Porto Alegre i Salvadorze, drogami federalnymi na południu i środkowym zachodzie kraju oraz wybranych elektrowni wodnych. – Państwo nie może robić wszystkiego, musimy otworzyć się na prywatnych inwestorów – opowiadał przed kamerami prezydent Temer. W środę natomiast przekonywał, że wyprzedaż państwowego majątku i stanowcze cięcia wydatków publicznych nie przełożą się ani na spadek jakości publicznego systemu opieki zdrowotnej, ani na poziom szkół. Żeby faktycznie tak było, brazylijska prawica musiałaby mieć w swoich szeregach cudotwórców. Niestety, ma tylko przedstawicieli krajowej klasy wyższej, którzy nie mogli darować Partii Pracujących działania na rzecz ubogich i bezwzględnie wykorzystali wszystkie jej potknięcia.

Aby upadek konkurentów, których działania były inspiracją dla lewicy na całym kontynencie, był całkowity, brazylijscy prokuratorzy zamierzają oskarżyć poprzednika Dilmy Rousseff, Luiza Inacio Lulę da Silvę, o kierowanie potężną grupą przestępczą, korupcję i pranie brudnych pieniędzy. Według prokuratora generalnego Deltana Dallagnola to Lula osobiście nadzorował proceder przekazywania lukratywnych kontraktów tym firmom, które odwdzięczyły się sowitymi wpłatami na fundusz partyjny lub przekazały łapówki właściwym osobom. Sam prezydent miał wzbogacić się o 1,11 mln dolarów dzięki łapówkom oraz pozyskać eksluzywny trójpoziomowy apartament w Sao Paulo. Lula i jego prawnicy konsekwentnie twierdzą, że oskarżenia są wyssane z palca i obrażają inteligencję obywateli, nigdy nie było żadnych łapówek, a apartament nie jest nawet własnością polityka.

Został oficjalnie wczoraj podpisany układ pokojowy pomiędzy FARC reprezentowany przez dowódcę Timoleóna Jiméneza pseudonim "Timoszenko" i Kolumbią reprezentowana przez prezydenta Manuela Santosa. Teraz on ma być ratyfikowany w referendum. Tym samym FARC przeobraża się w siłę polityczną. Tak kończy się (przynajmniej na razie) najdłuższy konflikt w Ameryce Łacińskiej. Trwał on 50 lat. A państwa Ameryki Łacińskiej mają około 200 lat... Jeszcze broni w Kolumbii nie złożył ELN i prawicowe bojówki, które są przykrywką tylko dla handlu kokainą.

W referendum pokojowym w Kolumbii wygrała nieznacznie opcja: "nie". To znaczy, że wiekszość uczestniczących głosowałą za wojną. Na razie nie widz, co zrobić dalej.

The head of the FARC's negotiating team said they were willing to meet with Alvaro Uribe in order to find a solution after the surprise result in the plebiscite.
The surprise defeat of the peace plebiscite in Colombia has left the country scrambling to figure out what comes next, however one advisor to the peace talks suggested in an interview with Semana magazine that a second plebiscite could be held in order for the population to reconsider the question.

The notion of holding another vote is likely on the minds of both sides of the negotiating table, though neither has discussed the possibility publicly.

Yes to Peace! Colombians Occupy Bogota for an End to War

Colombians marked one week of occupying the main square in Bogota’s historic center Tuesday, where they installed an “Encampment for Peace” in the wake of the shocking vote rejecting the landmark peace deal between the government and the FARC rebel army. And they won't leave until definitive end-of-conflict measures are put in place for the longest-running internal conflict in the Western Hemisphere.

Demonstrators launched the camp in Bogota’s Bolivar square last Wednesday to demand a swift resolution to the political uncertainty sparked by the upset “No” vote in the plebiscite on Oct. 2 that sought to ratify the peace accords. Occupiers demand follow through on the plans to end the 52-year-old civil war with the FARC and a commitment from both sides of the conflict to continue the bilateral cease-fire that has helped significantly reduce violence in recent months.

“I was born in war, but I want to live in peace,” one demonstrator at the camp, Martha Varon, told the Colombian magazine Semana.

Brazil Coup Mastermind Eduardo Cunha Arrested

Brazilian federal police arrested Eduardo Cunha, the controversial former head of the lower house of Congress and chief architect behind the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, at his apartment in Brasilia Wednesday.

According to Brazil’s O Globo news, federal police are expected to transfer Cunha Wednesday afternoon to Curitiba, the capital of the state of Parana, where a federal court has taken up the case. Preventative pre-trial detentions like Cunha’s are common in cases when the accused is considered a flight risk, as he is due to his wealth and dual Brazilian-Italian citizenship, according to federal Judge Sergio Moro, who authorized the arrest.

Rural activists protecting the community's natural resources are regularly attacked in Colombia by paramilitary groups, and sometimes military troops.
One more rural leader was killed Sunday in the southeastern department of Cauca, reported the campesinos organization he was leading, in a series of paramilitary violence targeting human rights activists in Colombia's rural areas.

Two hooded hitmen reportedly shot three times at community leader Ymer Chavez Rivera as he was leaving his house along with his wife, who was also injured and transferred to the closest medical center in Popayan, the capital of Cauca.

Protests against a Chinese-owned miner have expanded since a protester was shot dead in clashes with police a week ago.
Supplies needed to keep operating one of the world's biggest copper mines, Las Bambas, are running out as access roads remain blocked by protesters in Peru, Chinese-owned miner MMG Ltd said on Friday.

Protests against the company's use of local roads in the highland province of Challhuahuacho have expanded since a protester was shot dead in clashes with police a week ago.

"Community roads are currently blocked and supplies for operating and subsisting are about to run out," MMG's Chief Executive Andrew Michelmore said. "We now have large reserves that cannot be transported by road, a situation that cannot go on for much longer."

Jose Serra funded his presidential campaign in 2010 with money from the country's largest corruption scheme.
Brazil's current Foreign Minister Jose Serra received US$7.2 million from the corruption scheme in the state-run oil company Petrobras, which was deposited in a bank account in Switzerland and helped fund Serra's presidential campaign in 2010.

The announcement comes after Pedro Novis, former president of Odebrecht from 2002 to 2009, the country's largest construction company, revealed that several politicians including Serra were involved in the scandal.

The former Odebrecht chief made the allegations after he was arrested and according to local media, Folha de Sao Paulo, he provided details of those involved as part of a plea deal.

The Brazilian task force in charge of carrying out "Operation Car Wash," the huge investigation into Petrobas, have said they believe that Odebrecht officials can provide details of around US$13 billion in dirty contracts.

Despite Cease-Fire, We Keep Dying: Afro-Colombian Activist

An activist for the progressive political movement Marcha Patriotica, Hector Marino Carabali from the Cauca province, went to Havana as part of a delegation of victims representing Afro-descendant communities that have been heavily affected by forced displacements, evictions, torture and murders related to the armed conflict.

“We did not expect at all the result of the plebiscite to be 'No',” admitted the activist from the progressive political movement Patriotic March, although he expressed optimism for the future of the country. The result was a "wake-up call" for the people of Colombia, he believed, as many have taken to the streets demanding peace since the vote.

He highlighted the role of former President Alvaro Uribe in the "No" win, as the right-wing senator led a “dirty” campaign against peace, sending "messages of confusion in the media," said Carabali, and avoiding as much as possible a concrete explanation of the points of the agreement between the FARC-EP and the Colombian government.

Brazil Students Are Now Occupying Over 1,000 Schools, Colleges

The students are demanding an end to PEC 241, a constitutional amendment that would cut education budget for the next 20 years.
About 200,000 students in Brazil have missed their entrance exams for college, as students continue to occupy more than a thousand educational institutions in the country in protest against the right-wing, pro-asuterity coup government of President Michel Temer.

The massive, months-long protest is targeting the PEC 241 reform supported by President Temer, which will freeze public spending for the next 20 years, including the budget allocated for education.

Students have organized a nationwide occupation of at least 1,108 public schools and universities across 19 states, as well as the federal district that contains the capital, Brasilia.

Chile Strike Against Pinochet-Era Pension System Turns Violent

Pinochet's dictatorship lasted from his 1973 military coup until 1990, but much of the policy framework of the era continues to haunt the Chilean constitution.
Chilean workers and social groups organized Friday a national strike to protest against the private pension system established by the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, that puts the average retirement pension below the minimum wage.

The protest, which coincided with a strike by public workers against the government of Michelle Bachelet in demand of higher wages, started early in the morning when protesters burned 20 barricades, two buses and blocked the movement of vehicles in at least 27 locations throughout the capital city of Santiago.

The protest comes after several marches in which Chileans took to the streets to demand an end to the so-called AFP system, which forces workers to deposit a portion of their wages plus an administrative fee into accounts managed by private hands. The money is then supposedly reinvested into the Chilean economy.

W Chile trwają masowe protesty przeciwko systemowi emerytalnemu narzuconemu społeczeństwu przez wolnorynkową dyktaturę w latach osiemdziesiątych. Miało być kapitalistyczne eldorado, a jest głód i tłumy wściekłych ludzi na ulicach.

W piątek obywatele demonstrowali w stolicy kraju – Santiago, a także w Valparaiso, Vina del Mar, Concepcion, Temuco i innych miastach. W miesiąc po wielkich demonstracjach w pięćdziesięciu miastach Chile przeciw prywatnemu systemowi emerytur mobilizacja jest ogromna. Za koordynację protestów odpowiedzialny jest komitet powołany przez związki zawodowe oraz organizacje społeczne, które od lat domagają się demontażu niesprawiedliwego systemu, zainstalowanego przez brutalną proamerykańską juntę generała Augusto Pinocheta. Wczoraj manifestacje w kilku ośrodkach przerodziły się w blokady głównych arterii komunikacyjnych. W Santiago nie kursowało metro i część transportu kolejowego. Paraliż wzmógł jeszcze gniew obywateli, z których jednak ponad 70 proc. popiera postulaty protestujących.

FSLN's Ortega up with 71% in Nicaragua Presidential Election

The Sandinista leader promised to defend his social and economic achievements and continue with Nicaragua's strong economic growth.
Incumbent president Daniel Ortega of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, or FSLN, is ahead with 71 percent with almost a quarter of the votes counted, the head of the country's elections body announced Monday morning.

With turnout at 65.3 percent, Maximino Rodriguez, candidate of the center-right Liberal Constitutionalist Party and a former right-wing paramilitary fighter, was trailing significantly at just over 16 percent, Roberto Riva of the Supreme Electoral Council stated.

Polls closed at 6 p.m. local time Sunday in a vote that was characterized as peaceful and orderly in a vote.

Nicaraguans where called to chose a president, vice-president and members of the National Assembly to govern the Central American country for the next four years.Ortega, the former guerrilla leader of the leftist FSLN, had been polling ahead of his closest rival by over 60 points through most of the campaign.

FSLN supporters began celebrations in the early hours following the announcments.

Peru Youth Rise Up Against Corruption, Cronyism

Thousands of Peruvian citizens led by university students mobilized for a march Tuesday in rejection of President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and the Fujimorista-controlled Congress.

Those organizing the protest claim President Kuczynski is supporting the selection of morally and technically unqualified Fujimorista supporters to head several government institutions in exchange for support for reforms in Congress.

The decision to take to the streets was sparked by the selection of three people very close to Fujimorismo to the board of the Central Reserve Bank.

Organizers made a call to action stating, “Fujimorismo and their allies, showing off their desire to accumulate power and understanding public service as a hunting for political quotas, has named as directors of the Central Bank of Reserve people who lack technical and ethical integrity.”

Under Macri, 60% of Argentines Now Unemployed or Underemployed

The new right-wing government ruling Argentina unleashed a massive austerity plan, leaving hundreds of thousands without a job.
Six out of 10 economically active people in Argentina have employment-related problems, according to a survey published Friday by the University of Belgrano.

Published by the Center for Studies of the New Economy, or CENE, from the 20 million members of the country's economically active population just 7.4 million have regular job, meaning a staggering 59.3 percent are either unemployed, underemployed or are having difficulties finding proper employment.

During Cristina Kirchner’s administration, underemployment and unemployment were at 20.3 percent, according to a report from the Catholic University of Argentina. Including precarious employment, which was set at 34.9 percent, this figure rises to 55.2 percent.

Nie uspokaja się sytuacja w Brazylii po impeachmencie prezydent Dilmy Rousseff i pierwszych antyspołecznych reformach wprowadzonych przez jej następcę Michela Temera. Regularnie dochodzi do manifestacji ulicznych, dzisiaj niezadowoleni wkroczyli do parlamentu.

Grupa 50-60 mężczyzn i kobiet weszła przez okno do budynku Izby Deputowanych w Brasilii, a następnie wdarła się na mównicę i okupowała ją przez trzy godziny. Protestowali przeciwko korupcji, atakowali obecny centroprawicowy rząd i apelowali do armii, by przejęła władzę i zrobiła w kraju porządek. W państwie, którym przez ponad 20 lat (1964-1985) rządziła brutalna prawicowa junta, której członkowie uczyli się torturować od CIA, odwoływanie się w ten sposób do wojska świadczy o naprawdę ogromnej desperacji części społeczeństwa i skrajnej wrogości do cywilnych polityków. – Oni oddają nasz kraj bandytom. Nasze bogactwo znika – mówił o obecnie rządzacych Brazylią politykach jeden z manifestantów. Ostatecznie po trzech godzinach policja spacyfikowała protest, a jego uczestnicy trafili do aresztu.

Right-Wing Extremists Storm Brazil Congress, Demanding Coup

The protesters forcibly entered the Brazilian Congress, chanting “military intervention now."
A group of right-wing extremists stormed the chamber of the lower house of the Brazilian Congress Wednesday demanding the military stage a coup in order to root out “institutionalized communism” in the country.

According to the BBC, the right-wing demonstrators pushed back past guards, injuring some, before breaking a glass door in order to gain entry to the chamber.

Michel Temer, Rousseff's vice president who was elevated after the ouster, has faced regular demonstrations since being placed in the presidency but most protests have come from left-wing circles opposed to the parliamentary coup.

Wednesday's right-wing protest appeared to be driven by people who are concerned about corruption and wish to return Brazil to military rule. A bloody authoritarian dictatorship came to power in Brazil in 1964 after ousting leftist President João Goulart.

BRAZYLIA: BYŁO NA MUNDIAL, NIE MA NA PENSJE

W Rio De Janeiro oraz w stolicy kraju – Brasilii miały miejsce ostatnio gwałtowne protesty ludności niezadowolonej z sytuacji politycznej i ekonomicznej.

Około 2 tys. osób wyszło na ulice Rio De Janeiro w proteście przeciwko antysocjalnym planom lokalnych władz. W demonstracji wzięli udział głównie pracownicy sfery budżetowej, m.in. nauczyciele, strażacy oraz niepełniący w danym dniu służby policjanci. W celu rozpędzenia demonstracji użyto gazów łzawiących, kul gumowych oraz granatów ogłuszających. Rząd stanowy ogłosił stan klęski finansowej z powodu dużego deficytu spowodowanego m.in. wydatkami poniesionymi w związku z organizacją finałów Mistrzostw Świata w piłce nożnej. W efekcie wielu pracowników budżetówki od miesięcy nie otrzymuje pensji, a ponadto mają oni być obciążeni wyższą stawką ubezpieczenia społecznego. Mimo niezwykle trudnej sytuacji finansowej miejscowe władze zapowiedziały wprowadzenie dodatkowych ulg podatkowych, co w jeszcze większym stopniu pogłębi deficyt i zmniejszy dochody stanowego budżetu. Protestujący zapowiedzieli przeprowadzenie strajków z początkiem nadchodzącego tygodnia.
